Going home

It’s all confirmed … after nearly eight years, I’m going home to visit in September!

Booked the airline tickets online yesterday … that was a first, but it worked like a breeze. Icelandair.

I’m all excited about this and it’s all I can think of right now. Will fly from Halifax, NS to Kastrup in Copenhagen, Denmark. Noticed last night, that I’ll get ten hours to spend in Reykjavik on Iceland! That’s so cool and unexpected! I could never have imagined that I’d get to see Reykjavik in my life! Just hoping their volcano — Eyjafjallajökull — will keep cool and that there won’t be any #ashtag in Twitter 🙂

To begin with, I’ll spend time with my niece, who lives not too far from Malmö. That’s in Skåne — a part of Sweden I’ve never been to, so that will be wonderful. Then on to Stockholm, to see a very dear friend, whom I haven’t seen in real life since 1987. She’s originally from Melbourne, Australia, but has lived in Sweden for quite a few years now.

All that, before going up north to my hometown of Härnösand, where I’ll spend the major part of my trip.

Will bring both my camera [of course] and tripod … and take all the pictures of people and places that I never took before …because I was never into photography until about two years ago. Naturally, this laptop will come with also, so that I can post as soon as I have WiFi access.

  1. Wow! That sounds exciting. I look forward to your blogs (with photos) as you see old friends and visit familiar and not-so-familiar places. Having never been to Sweden, I know that I will learn a lot. HAVE FUN! 🙂

    1. Robert, Yes, I think it will be. It’s been a long time that I’ve been away … but on the other hand, my uncle was away for 42 years before he came back to visit 🙂

  2. That is great Rebekah, I am sure that you will really enjoy yourself and bring back lots of happy memories.

    love P

  3. Wonderful exciting news, Rebekah.
Take HEAPS of pictures of everyone and everything. You can process when you get back. Just soak it all up while you’re there.
    Hurray!

    1. Oh yeah, that’s for sure, Judith … there will be hundreds, and I’ll make sure to remember to bring the charger for the camera. Processing will come later..

This is one thing I’ve really missed … not having any photos from home.

  4. Hi,
Sounds fantastic, I’m sure it will be great to catch up with a lot of Family and Friends, it will be a great trip I’m sure, and to spend some time in Iceland, that is the icing on the cake. I hope we will see some photo’s of your trip, that would be great, and also to learn a bit more about Sweden.

    1. Mags, Oh, you’ll get to hear/read volumes about Sweden 🙂 It’s so strange …. had I still lived there, I wouldn’t have written so much about it!

    1. Thanks Lori, Now, that it’s all decided, it feels really good! I have another blogging buddy — she had not been in her homeland for sixteen years, I think it was, and she is also travelling in September some time..

  5. Oh wow! Great news! Vad roligt!

        Kramis!

  6. Hey – we are going away at the same time Rebakah – each to our own homeland! We are going back to the UK for a month in September!
You must be so excited going back after eight years and I feel excited for you; we will look forward to lots of photos of your visit with family and friends – and of course, the scenery and perhaps some ducks?

    1. Likewise, Barb … I’m looking forward to seeing lots of images from Scotland! I’ve thought about that a lot — that we’ll be going about the same time.

We have ducks in one of the channels in my town. In the Winter, they put a big pump in the water to keep it free of ice for them.. 🙂

  7. How wonderful for you. That is really something to be excited about and to look forward to.
And wonderful for us too as we’ll get to see your lovely pictures. Bonus.
    walk in beauty.

  8. How absolutely wonderful!!! I am so happy for you!!! I like Malmö. Make sure to see the Turning Torso or whatever it is. And the Öresund bridge. I have never been around Stockholm, only the train station. I cannot wait to see your photos. kramisar!

  9. How exciting! I bet you are just beside yourself. I know a man that traveled to Stockholm with his wife every year they loved it so much. They are from Oklahoma.

    1. Susan, Yes, it is exciting. It will be nearly eight years. It hasn’t really sunk in yet, but I think about it a lot … what it will be like to see my town again and the people there.Nothing stands still so it will be different…

  10. Wonderful Rebekah! I can’t begin to imagine how elated you must feel to fly home for a visit! And being able to visit Reykjavik on the go, that’s a very nice bonus. The volcano has been very quiet lately, so I hope all goes well on that account.
